Barum produces tyres in Europe‘s most modern factories under the umbrella of the powerful Continental Group. Barum history

  • 1948 Three tyre manufacturers – Bata, Rubena and Mitas – merge in the Czech city of Zlín. The founding companies’ initial letters are put together to create the brand Barum.
  • 1966 Barum begins to build a plant in Otrokovice.
  • 1971 The Barum Czech Rally Zlín, which remains a success to this day, is held for the first time.
  • 1972 Construction of the modern factory is completed. Barum tyres are still produced there today.
  • 1992 The German tyre manufacturer Continental signs a joint venture agreement with Barum.
  • 1993 Barum is incorporated into the global Continental Group and henceforth operates under the name Barum Continental spol. s.r.o. This gives the company access to cutting-edge scientific research capacities and highly efficient high-tech tyre manufacture technology.
  • 1994 Lloyd’s Register certificate in compliance with ISO 9001 for the quality of the production process for tyres for passenger cars; the certificate was then extended to the production process for agricultural and truck tyres in the following year.

  • 1996 Production of tyres in the Otrokovice plant reached nearly 6 million tyres.

  • 1997 Barum Continental was the first company in the Czech Republic to receive an ISO 14 001 and EMAS certificate for meeting of environmental norms. In July, the plant was hit by catastrophic floods with damages amounting to nearly one billion Czech crowns.

  • 1999 Annual production exceeded 11 million tyres for passenger cars; in June the production of tyres for passenger cars exceeded one million for the first time in the history of the plant

  • 2001 Beginning of production in the new High-Tech Cell plant.

  • 2002 Beginning of production of new high-speed Barum Bravuris tyres for speeds of up to 240 km/h, total production of tyres exceeded 15 million pieces.

  • 2008 Foundation of a retail company ContiTrade Services s.r.o. (BestDrive)

  • 2010 40th anniversary of the Barum Czech Rally with a record number of visitors and representatives from the media

  • 2012 Company renamed to Continental Barum s.r.o.

  • 2013 Introduction of the new generation of Barum Bravuris 3HM tyres into the market, with HM (High Mileage) performance

  • 2016 Opening of a new production hall for truck tyres with a planned capacity of 700,000 pieces per year, amounting to CZK 4.2 billion per year.

  • 2017 Barum is launched in the Middle East
